A package of 39 anti-voter bills was introduced in several legislatures this spring, including Michigan. To learn more about the individual bills go to the LWVMI website home page. Two of these bills passed by the Michigan Senate and House last month expand ID requirements for voters before their ballots can be counted. The option of voting by affidavit if a voter does not have an acceptable ID would be removed, and identifying information for a voter submitting an absentee ballot application would be required. Many Michigan voters will be disenfranchised when their right to vote is made more difficult. Watch for Action Alerts from LWVMI and contact your legislators about these anti-voter bills to keep voting convenient.
